Patrik Andiné
Somewhere between Renaissance painting and the American underground comics of the 1960s, Patrik Andiné builds up his visual world. The softness that the painstaking craftsmanship imbues the motifs contrasts with the often hidden and sometimes threatening nature that seems to lurk in many of the works. With a palpable cinematic touch, he depicts wondrous scenes that give the impression that something essential has happened or is happening outside the pictorial space. There are subjects turned away from the viewer, light sources penetrating through heavy drapes and under closed doors. The equivocal and ambivalent are hinted at in landscapes and interiors evoked by the depth of the colour layers and the enchanting lighting effects.
Patrik Andiné was born in 1968 in Gothenburg, where he lives and works today. He studied at the Hovedskou School of Painting (1988-1990) and at the Royal College of Art (1990-1995). Patrik Andiné has been shown in a number of solo exhibitions, including at Alingsås konsthall (2009) and Kabusa konsthall (2003). His work is represented in several collections, for example at the Gothenburg Art Museum and Malmö Art Museum.
